In the 1960s Ann Baker, an American cat breeder, started to develop what is now known as the Ragdoll cats. The cat credited as the original Ragdoll was a white regular non-pedigree cat named Josephine. Ann Baker thought that Josephine was a relaxed cat that went limp when held. This characteristic is the origin of the name.

  • The coat is silky, plush, and can vary in length from semi-long to long.

Ragdolls are a reasonably healthy breed with a few health issues like:

  • Urinary tract problems such as bladder stones
  • Obesity
  • Hairballs, due to a long coat

  • They weight between 12 to 20 pounds
  • Their lifespan is 12 to 15 years
  •  Ragdolls have light-colored bodies with darker extremities, with a variety of colors such as frost, blue, chocolate, seal, red, lilac, and cream
  •  Ragdolls are sociable and dependant cats
  •  They shed moderately, more heavily in spring and fall.
