Origin

In the 1960s Ann Baker, an American cat breeder, started to develop what is now known as the Ragdoll cats. The cat credited as the original Ragdoll was a white regular non-pedigree cat named Josephine. Ann Baker thought that Josephine was a relaxed cat that went limp when held. This characteristic is the origin of the name.

Ragdolls are a reasonably healthy breed with a few health issues like:

  • Urinary tract problems such as bladder stones
  • Obesity
  • Hairballs, due to a long coat

  •  Ragdolls are sociable and dependant cats
  •  They shed moderately, more heavily in spring and fall.
